I have many story idea's and I am desperate to get them down on paper, or in my case computer.
The Oldbury writing group went really well last night, we almost had a full house in terms of seats and it was really good to listen to every ones stories. Every week I give an assignment. Well, I call it an assignment, it is really is just imagination prompts. It is great to listen and watch how all of the group members are blossoming every week. There is one particular member whom is making remarkable progress, as was mentioned in yesterdays group. I did not give a prompt for yesterdays group session; I wanted to listen to something they had come up with by themselves. Everyone came up with amazing stuff and there is one particular story that has stuck in my head. I find the hardest part about writing isn't having the ability to gain the attention of the reader or listener, it is keeping that attention. I am really looking forward to next weeks group. The assignment I have set is as follows, and please feel free to come up with a story of your own by using this prompt. You are at your desk at work; you get an internal email from someone in the company, but you don't recognise the email address and it has been sent anominously. The email sounds like you have a secret admirer, not interested you delete it and think nothing more about it, but then you get one the next day and then the next and the next and the next. You decide to email back and the reply is quite surprising. The story that you put to this can be anything you want, in any genre you write in. It could end up being a thriller, a romantic comedy, a horror. Whatever takes your fancy, be creative. Try to keep it within a couple of thousand words. If you are writing stories for magazines, you will know that they don't except anything too long. So this is a good way to practice writing your SHORT stories.
